Dawson, Yukon to Tok, Alaska to Fairbanks, Alaska

We left Dawson City on Sunday after a night that was day because the lovely Inn that we stayed at did not think to put up blackout shades.   The Mini blinds just did not do the job! This pic was taken in the middle of the night.

And we couldn't wear our outside shoes in the Inn.  They supplied Crocs which were actually quite comfy.  Here's Jono relaxing with his Crocs!
We headed out and the only North/West way out of Dawson is by ferry.   It's free and runs 24 hours a day.     It's a 4 minute trip.  The town does not want a bridge (like they don't want paved streets either) and it's actually quite cool!

When we got to the other side, of course it was an unpaved road as well.   Jono did a great job!

We stopped a bunch of times to take pics,   The road was called the Top of the World Highway.   It was spectacular!

The road consisted of not much paved road, a little bit of gravel and a whole lot of just dirt roads.   So much for that bike wash the other day!   The dirt just cakes on!

We finally made it to the border!  The border agent was so excited to be able to take our picture,,,She took 4 of them!   She wanted to be sure to get the American Flag in it!

Apparently the agents stay up there for a month at a time.  It's really on the middle of nowhere.
There are 2 cabins...one for the US and one for Canada.

We stopped at the Alaska sign and met a lovely couple from Vancouver Island who insisted on taking our picture for us...then they wanted a pic with their camera of our trailer.

As we entered Alaska we were greeted with a teeny bit of hail.
It lasted about a minute, thanks goodness,  Those hail stones really hurt!

We made it to Chicken, Alaska.  topped for gas and a quick lunch at the only place in town!

There were some interesting vehicles parked in the lot.

We headed towards our next destination, Tok

We stayed at the cutest cabins.   A sweet couple were flooded out of their home in Fairbanks about 40 years ago and came to Tok with the kids.  They built the entire place and the hubby raced and won some Iditarod races,

They treat all the guests like visitors in their home.  It really was a pleasant stay.

They had some vehicles for sale...which interested Jono!

Here's our cabin.  We were in the Fisherman Cabin.  All the cabins had themes.

Nancy served us breakfast and chatted away with great stories as we ate,

We left Tok after breakfast and headed to Fairbanks.   Thank goodness the roads were paved!

There was a bit of fog or dust along the way,

Just before we got to Fairbanks, we passed through the North Pole!

We found our way to the hotel in Fairbanks and were all settled in for a few days!
